The Sydney Ports Harbour Control Tower rises above Barangaroo Reserve, in the inner city suburb of Barangaroo. The tower was once used by the Sydney Harbour port facilities before they were moved to Port Botany. The former concrete industrial container terminal was transformed into a foreshore park, with a naturalistic rocky outcrop recreated and landscaped with native trees and shrubs. I posted a photo of the site before redevelopment last week, which can be seen here.
What a difference, Jim!
ReplyDeleteAnd quite a spectacular place to walk around now, William. I'll show a shot of the foreshore tomorrow.
DeleteI wonder whether the tower remains unused, or do tourists have asscess to it?
ReplyDeleteKenneth, it's no longer in use and there has been talk about it being demolished. I think they should keep it and use it as a viewing platform for tourists.
DeleteAmazing how this scene enhances the bridge view now. Lovely. And I believe that this was a special project of Paul Keating's?
ReplyDeleteYes, that's right, Gemma. It is one of our former prime minister's projects.
DeleteInteresting, I have never read about a Port Control Tower. Hope the tower is given a good use.
ReplyDeleteFrom the distance it appears to be tastefully done.

ReplyDeleteNice Capture for WednesdayAroundTheWorld.
ReplyDeleteWhat I love about Sydney is the vast attractions it has to offer to both locals and tourists alike. There are historical landmarks and monuments, educational spots, interesting architecture and many more. After a hard day’s work at the self storage, I can just go around the corner for some eateries and just take a breather with friends and family. Nothing gets more convenient than that.
