The former Newtown Primary School is on the corner of King Street and Newman Street, in the inner city suburb of Newtown. It was designed by George Allen Mansfield as a two storey Victorian Free Gothic building in 1875, with later additions in 1892 and a three storey tower at the main entrance in 1921. It is now part of the Newtown High School of the Performing Arts. A war memorial, located just outside the school, was erected in memory of all former pupils of Newtown Primary School who served in the First World War.
The style appeals to me, and it looks like a lovely day when you took this.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting. I hope the high school kids take note of that war memorial.
ReplyDeleteIt looks to me to be so formal for a primary school!
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful! The trees, although hiding the building are adding to the beauty of the setting.
ReplyDeleteThat doesn't look like any school around here. Lovely building.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad the war memorial is located just next the school. Too often children who grew up and went to war were remembered only by their parents and siblings. In this case, the entire school is remembering them.
ReplyDeleteI bet those shadows are welcome to allow some coolness into the building!
ReplyDeleteWhy couldn’t I have gone to school in a building like this? I think it is lovely it is being used for the School for the Performing Arts. It is so pretty and I notice some hidden shadows of the fencing.
ReplyDeletesort of takes up the corner, doesn't it!
ReplyDelete...and the rest of the block.
DeleteA lovely style of architecture but it was the roof that caught my eye as its so different from the slate roofs I'm used to seeing.
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful school and i love that it is still being used
ReplyDeleteGreat building and neat fence shot!
ReplyDeleteHappy Weekend to you, ^_^
Nice looking building. I like the clock tower and the green color of the fence.
ReplyDeleteI love that green fence!
