Sutherlands Hotel, otherwise known as Bar Broadway, is located on the corner of Broadway and Regent Street in the inner city suburb of Chippendale. This heritage listed pub was built in 1939 in the Inter-War Functionalist architectural style.
Hi Jim I worked in Sydney as a young girl in my twenties. My first impression flying in from NZ was red bricks and tiled rooves - I thought it was wonderful! Love your photo of Sutherlands. Shane
I love the detail at the corner where the top of the building steps back in order to create a kind of balcony on the third floor. Outstanding masonry work is on display here. Very nice image.
Looks like a fine place to stay!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jim, for joining us at https://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2016/05/american-tobacco-campus-durham-nc.html
Inter-War Functionalist architecture was a tough, no-nonsense style but what a location! Large corner blocks attracted customers in both streets.
ReplyDeleteLooks grand!

ReplyDeleteDefinitely has the 1930s art deco look. Wonder if they have kept the original interior.

ReplyDeleteUnusual, but I like it.
ReplyDeleteLooks nice on the outside. Would like to see the inside. It doesn't looks like a pub.
ReplyDeleteYou certainly have some wonderful structures where you live!
ReplyDeleteThe architecture on the front of the building is really interesting. You really live in architecture heaven.
