St Petka Macedonian Orthodox Church is located along Railway Parade, in the southern suburb of Rockdale. I've featured this church today because The Resurrection of Christ Macedonian Orthodox Church, also in this suburb, was destroyed by fire this week after Orthodox Easter celebrations. That congregation was formed when a dispute within the church resulted in a split.
Oh, those church disputes!
ReplyDeleteDifferent from what I'm used to. A shame about the other church though.
ReplyDeleteIt feels like eastern European meets mid-east styles. Church disputes can be the worst when each side forgets the gift of forgiveness that Jesus taught and gave...
ReplyDeleteThat's a nice-looking church.
ReplyDeleteWow-there were several churches here in the US that got destroyed this week too. Seems like a plot of some sort-how sad that they are gone and who would do that?
DeleteCorrection-it was four churches globally that got destroyed on the same day: http://nypost.com/2016/05/04/heard-of-serbian-church-fears-fires-were-coordinated-attacks/
DeletePaula, it's sad that these churches were destroyed by fire but hopefully they were accidents and not malicious.
Deletewhat a lovely church- too bad about the dispute! Cheers and have a lovely day!
ReplyDeleteIt is terrible how Orthodox churches on 3 different continents all burned right after Orthodox Easter last Sunday!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the picture of St. Petka. Long may that church stand.
What a beautiful church!
ReplyDeleteThe blue cross ceratinly makes a streetscape statement against the more subdued tones of the wallls. Beautiful building.
ReplyDeletechurches seem to slip on a regular basis
ReplyDeleteInteresting church. Looks enormous!
