Camperdown, bandstand

This bandstand is located in Camperdown Park, in the inner west suburb of Camperdown. It was built around 1884 in the Victorian architectural style and originally stood in Hyde Park but was reconstructed at Camperdown Park in 1911.

  1. That's a beautiful bandstand only matched by the jacaranda.

  2. We used to see those in small towns around here, but not for a long time.

    1. Sallie, they certainly don't build any new ones but it's great these have survived to recall the past.

  3. I did not know that! It must have been quite wonderful back in those days that there were so many celebrations that parks required bandstands....

  4. I'm reminded of one in a town where my parents would occasionally visit.

  5. When I tried to write the history of Federation bandstands in Australia in 2009, my examples were almost all from Melbourne or rural Victoria. Except for one gorgeous photo from Hyde Park in Sydney. I think that might be your bandstand that was later (in 1911) reconstructed at Camperdown Park !!!
