Gladesville, cottages

The sandstone cottages are located beside the main gate of the former Gladesville Hospital, along Punt Road in the lower north shore suburb of Gladesville. This heritage listed cottages were built around 1874 in the Gothic Revival architectural style and were extended in 1910 and had verandahs enclosed in 1950. They were originally doctors' residences and are now used as a child care centre.

  3. It looks quite quaint. Was the building initially intended to be used as a two-family dwelling? It's an interesting structure.

    1. That's a good question, Sue. They probably needed two gatekeepers to cover the whole day, so they would have needed to house two families.

    1. Tom, I took a few more photos around the historic Gladesville Hospital but it was late in the day so the shadows played havoc with my shots so I'm planning to go back there again soon.

  8. A beautiful building. I always thought a cottage was something smaller. Good to know it doesn't have to be.
