Glebe, horse trough

This planter box is located along St Johns Road, in the inner city suburb of Glebe. This heritage listed item was originally a horse trough and serves as a tangible reminder of when horses were a common means of transport. This concrete trough is not as fancy as the sandstone James Spring Drinking Fountain and Horse Trough in nearby Darlington.

  1. I still remember troughs from the 1950s in Melbourne. But ours were all pulled out. Filling them with plants makes more sense than destroyng them.
