Redfern, Glengarry Castle Hotel

 
The Glengarry Castle Hotel is located on the corner of Lawson Street and Abercrombie Street, in the inner city suburb of Redfern. The hotel was built circa 1851 in the Victorian style. A previous colour scheme can be seen here.

Darlington, factory

This heritage listed former factory is bounded by Lawson Street, Abercrombie Street, Ivy Street, Wilson Street and Ivy Lane, in the inner city suburb of Darlington. It was built in 1883 in the Federation style as a boot factory for McMurtrie, Kellermann & Co and in the 1920s converted to a gas meter manufacturing works for Parkinson and Cowan. In 1964, the building was purchased by Nedor Holdings for manufacturing handbags. During the 1990s, the building was occupied by the Australia Council. In 2002 it was redeveloped for use as residential apartments and offices and is now known as The Foundry. A different view can be seen here.

Sydenham, mural


This is part of a mural which appears on the side wall of a shop and residence on the corner of Railway Road and Unwins Bridge Road, in the inner west suburb of Sydenham. 'Wetland' was created by David Cragg in 2023 for the Inner West Council's Perfect Match Street Art program.

York Street, Stoddart House

Stoddart House is a commercial building along York Street, opposite the Queen Victoria Building. The heritage listed former warehouse was built in 1908 in the Federation Warehouse style. It was originally known as the Frank F Bundock Building, named after its owner. Between 1932 and 1944 lessees included S G Blanton Ltd and Stoddart Properties Ltd and it became known as Stoddart House. In 1981, the property was purchased by Corporate Apparel Ltd, the present owners and occupiers.

Hyde Park, Hydeaway (Theme Day: Outdoor Cafe)

Hydeaway is a cafe located in the south western corner of Hyde Park, behind the main entrance of Museum Railway Station. The Hyde Park Cafe was previously located here. The Downing Centre is the heritage building behind it, diagonally across the Elizabeth Street and Liverpool Street intersection. Originally known as 'The Piazza', it was the site of Mark Foy's department store, now converted to a court complex.

Haymarket, McKell Building

The McKell Building is bounded by George Street, Rawson Place, Pitt Street and Barlow Street, in the inner city suburb of Haymarket. This 23-level tower was built as a state government office building in 1979 in the Brutalist style. It was named after Sir William John McKell, GCMG, QC who was the 12th Governor-General of Australia from 1947 to 1953 and had previously been Premier of New South Wales from 1941 to 1947. Sydney Town Hall, York Street


A side view of Sydney Town Hall from a bus stop in York Street, beside the Queen Victoria Building. The heritage listed town hall building was designed by John H. Wilson and completed in 1889 in the Grand Victorian Second Empire style. The skyscrapers rising above are the HSBC Centre along George Street and Lumiere along Bathurst Street.

York Street, Scripture Union House


Scripture Union House is a commercial building along York Street, opposite the Queen Victoria Building. The heritage listed former warehouse was built in 1905 in the Federation Warehouse style. It was originally built for W.S. Friend & Co, iron merchants and ironmongers. From 1914 it was leased and then bought by Arthur Pringle Stewart, known for Akubra Hats. In 1967 it was transferred to the Scripture Union Children's Special Mission and Interschool Christian Fellowship and the building was altered in 1968 by architects Hely Bell & Horne.

Sydenham, General Gorden Hotel


The General Gorden Hotel is located bounded by Swain Street, Burrows Avenue and Gleeson Street, in the inner west suburb of Sydenham. The original pub was built on this site in 1885 and named for General Charles Gordon, who had died in the defence of Khartoum in January 1885 and was commemorated all over the British Empire as a heroic martyr. This larger hotel was designed by Sidney Warden in 1932, in the Georgian Revival for Tooth & Co Ltd.
