York Street, Scripture Union House

Scripture Union House is a commercial building along York Street, opposite the Queen Victoria Building. The heritage listed former warehouse was built in 1905 in the Federation Warehouse style. It was originally built for W.S. Friend & Co, iron merchants and ironmongers. From 1914 it was leased and then bought by Arthur Pringle Stewart, known for Akubra Hats. In 1967 it was transferred to the Scripture Union Children's Special Mission and Interschool Christian Fellowship and the building was altered in 1968 by architects Hely Bell & Horne.
