Barangaroo, Sydney skyline

Barangaroo is the new suburb along the western foreshore of the Sydney Central Business District. An urban renewal project will create new parklands, commercial and residential areas here. The name Barangaroo honours an indigenous woman from Sydney's early history who was a powerful and colourful figure in the colonisation of Australia. She was also the wife of Bennelong, another important indigenous figure after whom Bennelong Point is named which is the site of the Sydney Opera House, on the other side of the Central Business District.

  1. All of which will only eventuate once this state gets out of its dire financial straights created by incompetence and lack of vision! Which would mark me down as a conservative supporter - not on your nelly. Effectively, I am disenfranchised at the next poll ... and that makes me annoyed!!

What I dont want to see along here is what happened at CQ: incompatible development that locks the people and the environment out. I know the economics will not permit, but this should be parkland. Full stop. Parkland for the enjoyment of our descendants for generations.

Anyone else want to borrow my soap-box?

  2. Yeah, hopefully it won't be anything like Circular Quay. Maybe in this case there's a better chance of some decent town planning because they're starting from scratch or maybe I'm just being an optimist.

  8. Very nice photo of the waterfront. I love the plae names that come from indigenous words and people. They remind me of some of the place names in Canada. ;-)
