Ultimo, Australian Hotel
The Abercrombie Hotel which was formerly known as the Australian Hotel is on the corner of Broadway and Abercrombie Street, in the inner city suburb of Ultimo. This art deco pub is part of the huge Carlton and United Brewery redevelopement site in Chippendale. Many of the former brewery buildings on the six hectare site behind the pub have already been demolished and will be replaced by many new high rise apartment buildings. This pub is closing soon and will be incorporated in the new development. I thought the former Australian Hotel would be a perfect photo to show on Australia Day.
Interesting and mossy building.
ReplyDeleteI'll drink to that. Happy Australia day!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice that it is not being demolished. Happy Australia Day!
ReplyDeleteHappy Australia Day! It looks to be a nice place...rather sad to see so many old building being replaced by new highrises, though!
ReplyDeleteIt saddens me when so many of our old buildings get torn down.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day - are you having the traditionll Aussie barbie?
Cheers.

A great old building. Happy Australia Day.
ReplyDeleteGood choice. Wonder if it will reopen as an upmarket pub, or they'll just turn it into apartments.
ReplyDeleteHappy Australia Day.
Years that I've been to a Pub, the place where I learned more about life than anywhere else.
ReplyDeletePlease have a wonderful Australia Day.
A play of new and old .. nice view..
ReplyDeleteIt sure is an Aussie icon. Although I feel it is an ugly building It should be kept. Happy Australia Day
ReplyDeleteAustralia Day? Happy Australia Day. I guess I'm off to Mr Google to learn more about what that is.
ReplyDeleteI would think that building would be an icon worth saving.
why does this place sound so familiar. this would look great renovated...it's a shame!
ReplyDeleteHappy Australia Day. Good to keep the old building and preserve it.
ReplyDeleteI adore art deco's curved lines. There's no other architecture style that even comes close. Add ivy, like this pub, and you have me hooked.
ReplyDeleteBlossomFlowerGirl, I didn't have a traditionl barbecue this year for Australia Day, because I'm having a holiday in Tasmania. I have been posting and checking in on the blog remotely.
ReplyDeleteSallie (FullTime-Life), I hope you found that info on google about Australia Day being our national holiday celebrating everything Australian and commemorating the arrival of Europeans here.
What a neat looking building. I love when Ivy grows on the side of a building.
