Redfern, Strawberry Hills, Australia Post headquarters

The state headquarters of Australia Post are located in the Prince Alfred Park Building on Cleveland Street, in an inner city locality known as Strawberry Hills. This part of Strawberry Hills is actually located in the suburb of Redfern. The building replaced the old Sydney Mail Exchange, also previously known as the notorious Redfern Mail Exchange which operated from 1965-1985. The palm trees outside the office building lead you down to Prince Alfred Park opposite. Strawberry Hill was the name of a hill under Northcott Place in nearby Surry Hills, later altered to Strawberry Hills for the locality.

  3. Mmm ... not sure about palm trees like this. To me they simply dont represent Sydney. They are not warm and cuddly. They dont provide sufficient shade. They are ugly ... must be grouch time.

Must go and check out the renovations on Prince Alfred Park.

  5. It surely must be a joy to write snailmail with such a post office. With regard to the palm trees, many over here were cut as a strange and foreign bug said to have distroyed there branches.

    Please have a good weekend.

  6. Julie, I drove past the revamped Prince Alfred Park the other day. They've opened up half of it now but they're still working on the other half.

Robert, that has happened in Sydney too. I can't remember if it was a bug or a disease. My street was lined with palm trees that were 70 years old but sadly they're all gone now.

  8. Red, apparently there was a hill in the suburb of Surry Hills known as Strawberry Hill which later was altered to Straberry Hills for the locality.
