This crane on a barge seen here on the weekend moored on Walsh Bay at Dawes Point, between pier one and pier two, was being used for maintenance work around the Walsh Bay wharves on weekdays.
Beautiful blue sky, something which we haven't seen much the last couple of weeks (we usually get 300 sunny days a year). A floating crane is something very strange to me.
By coincedence I found this blog by the crane post. At first I have looked around a bit and must say that these are real fine pictures of an obviously wonderful city. Don't know much about Sidney but it seems worth living there. Lucky ones!
The crane on the barge is just a small one with a lifting capacity of approx. 30-50 tons. But nonetheless it's definetly no easy job to operate a crane on a barge. In order to get it rather stable water is pumped permanently in and out of the barge for balancing. In European Offshore-Windparks this is done with 1250 tons capacity crawler cranes and lifting heights up to 120 meters.
I think I will get here more often just to the sunny side of life. ;-)
Even a crane looks nice when it has a pretty blue sky as a background.

ReplyDeleteGreat skies in your last few posts! Love the view of the Opera House from Campbell's cove!
ReplyDeleteWhat an incredible bit of engineering. It looks ready to topple, but obviously it's designed in such a way that that doesn't happen.
ReplyDeleteVicki, that's what I found fascinating about it too. :)
ReplyDeletelove the blue skies and water....the crane seems balancing on a tightrope.
ReplyDeleteFascinating. This was with the big camera? Definitely makes a difference.
ReplyDeleteAnn, yes it was and yes it certainly does make a difference.
ReplyDeleteYou are a very good photographer. I enjoyed visiting your blog :-)
ReplyDeleteI, too, thought the boat was a little "top heavy", but obviously they know what they're doing! Great catch!
ReplyDeleteThe clarity and colors are wonderful. I have never seen a crane in the water before.
ReplyDeleteSea looks agitated... I like how you captured the motion of the water.
