Birchgrove, Ballast Point Park

This contemporary sun shelter over these benches is located in Ballast Point Park at Birchgrove. It's designed to provide shade when the sun is at its harshest, in the middle of the day, yet still provides views of the sky. The benches provide spectacular views over Mort Bay and Sydney Harbour, with Goat Island and the Sydney Harbour Bridge in the distance.

  1. Fabulous capture! Love the design concept of this sunshade... neat!

  2. I often wonder why "they" make sun shelters that let the sunlight shine through. Doesn't make much sense to me...

    When planets plummet
    And comets careen,
    It’s the strangest sight
    You ever have seen.

    When drunk stars stagger
    And comets collide,
    It’s time to look up
    As you go outside

    To stare at the sky
    Where the strangest sight
    Is the moon-faced thing
    That you see at night.

  5. one of my favourite things to do in Sydney is hop aboard some random ferry and see where you end up

  6. Great idea for a sunshade that allows the winter sun through but protects from the harsh burning mid-day summer sun.

  7. Jim, a great perspective of Sydney. Don't think I have been there - will add to the to do list. Looks like a great place to go.

  8. PerthDailyPhoto, it's certainly one of the best views. I discovered it a short time ago and have been back at different times of the day and discovered so much more.

  9. The place I like to hang out with my camera in tow. ^_^

  10. Your Sydney Harbour Bridge certainly has a personality all its own and is very recognizable. The little shelter area for a 1/2 shielding from the sun is an interesting design. A bit unusual Such a nice shot. Genie

  11. Such a beautiful view, and yet no-one is enjoying it from those generously provided benches?!

  12. VioletSky, it was a weekday, so not too many people about.

  13. A nice place to sit and watch the harbor but in today's world I think I would rather see solar cells on the roof.

  14. What a beautiful view. I could sit there awhile and contemplate life!

  15. There's a crowd of us sitting there now, Jim... :-)

  16. Lovely location ... what a place to enjoy the view!
