This corner shop is located in Rowntree Street, in the inner west suburb of Birchgrove. The building has recently been restored and has reopened as Rowntree Corner Store with grocery goods, fresh fruit and vegetables and a delicatessen.
I like the restoration, although how authentic is that colour combination, Jim? I hope when they are open that they junk up the frontage with barrows and trays. It is a bit forbidding in its tidiness!!
Nice shot and beautiful building J.

ReplyDeleteNice to see a corner store reopening but guess by the suburb that it is pretty up market. Good luck to them.

ReplyDeleteJulie, I'm not sure how authentic teh colour scheme is but it is quite striking amongst the handful of shops in this location.
ReplyDeleteNice shot! The balcony reminds me of the French Quarter of New Orleans.
ReplyDeleteFantastic 19th century building and even lovelier iron work on the balcony. Plus the design made the absolute most of the tight corner location.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful building. It was worth being restored!
ReplyDeleteThe idea of a 'corner store' is just so comforting, thanks Jim!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely corner store - I love the iron work.
ReplyDeleteThe metal lace work is incredible.
ReplyDeleteI can only think, thank goodness I don't have to paint the ironwork.
ReplyDeleteVery nice building! :) LG Tina

ReplyDeleteHow ice to have an old fashioned corner store like we used to have in the 50's. Great restoration job too.
