This wide footpath is located in front of shops along Botany Road, in the inner city suburb of Waterloo. It's typical of a traditional suburban shopping centre with a fruit shop, coffee shop, bakery, supermarket seen here and even a payphone. The suburb of Waterloo took its name from the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, when Allied and Prussian forces under the Duke of Wellington and Blücher defeated the French forces under Napoleon Bonaparte.
I love this photo. It makes me want to be there. Right now. Strolling down the street and stopping for coffee.

Good one! I noticed the public pay phone also. We still have them in Montreal, but not as abundant as before but they are still commonplace. Cheers from Montreal.
ReplyDeleteThis has a warm, human scale and tone to it. In the parts of the USA I know, pay phones have almost completely disappeared.
ReplyDeleteThe payphones are slowly disappearing from Sydney streets too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great place! And a public pay phone!! Haven't seen one of those in a while. My kind of place to shop and a great capture, Jim! Hope your week is off to a good start!

Nice place for a morning coffee.
ReplyDeleteNice having those wide sidewalks so you can eat outside. Looks like a very pleasant place to stroll.
ReplyDeleteWhat a romantic place...I would love to be there right now as we are in the middle of a grim heat wave and it is miserable here in VA. I think it would be great fun walking from shop to shop and just looking in the windows. Genie
ReplyDeleteThat's an attractive place to go shop and wander around.
ReplyDeletenice shot.

ReplyDeletedoes it get crowded?
This is an attractive place to visit. Payphones are very rare now, because almost everybody has a mobile phone now. Yet they are very useful.
ReplyDeletemagiceye, it can get busy but it never gets what you call crowded. This was a Saturday afternoon, so not many people about.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely place to stroll around! I had learned the name "Waterloo" by a song "Waterloo" by ABBA before I knew the Battle of Waterloo. Happy days ahead!
ReplyDeleteNice to see those wide pavements!
ReplyDeleteA nice picture with so many details! :) It would be also perfect for this weeks *PicStory* outdoor*. :) So if you like....
