"The Tank Farm" is the name of this structure in Ballast Point Park, in the inner west suburb of Birchgrove. The tanks depict how Ballast Point was once used by industry as a working harbourfront and grease manufacturing site. The three remaining riveted horizontal tanks date back to the 1920s and were formerly used to store solvents. They are in their original form, making them a visual landmark from land, air and the harbour.
Interesting concept!
ReplyDeleteLooks a bit rusty. Like to see industrial art.
ReplyDeletePeter, it's not the usual thing I photograph but I liked the rusty look of the tanks. They looked especially good against that blue sky and wispy clouds.
ReplyDeleteYou are right Jim the brilliant blue of the sky works so well with the rusty colour. It's also interesting to see the huge size of the tanks, I must admit I'm a big fan of the 'rust' in images.
ReplyDeleteMe, too, Jim. Rust works. I especially like this sort of 'dense' rust. Interesting shot. Ballast Point is a conundrum to me. Not sure if I like it or not. It appears very cold, uninviting and clinical.
ReplyDeleteGood to see some remanants of the old industrial and working harbour.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. Don't know that area at all. I do like photographing that kind of thing. All that wonderful rust and texture. Peter, if you like industrial art you should get over to Cockatoo Island.
ReplyDeleteJulie, they seem to have gone with a very contemporary design at Ballast Point Park, but I tend to agree that parts of it do look a bit clinical.
ReplyDeleteThis shot is so interesting after seeing and reading about the picture you posted yesterday. Loved seeing the old drums. They definitely show their age. Great shot. genie
ReplyDeleteThis is a great shot..You find interesting things to photograph!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful rusty colour against the blue of the sky.
ReplyDeleteCool shot... this would also look great in black & white!
ReplyDeleteNice shot of the tank farm.
