The Iron Cove Bridge crosses Iron Cove and links the inner west suburbs of Rozelle and Drummoyne. The old truss span bridge which opened in 1955 is obscured here by the new duplicated concrete box girder bridge which opened in 2011. They are bathed in the golden glow of sunset.
A gorgeous bridge and I appreciate your adding some history to your post. Happy Saturday to you, Jim! :)
ReplyDeletevery pretty in the sunset, you captured the curve of the bridge beautifully!
ReplyDeleteThis looks very much like the design of a couple of our bridges over here Jim, wonder if it was the same person that designed both. Hmmm will have to do some research!
ReplyDeleteI watched this bridge being built but have never seen it complete. Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteTerrific bridge and wonderful shot as always, Jim! Hope you're enjoying a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteSylvia
Gorgeous shot.
ReplyDeletePlease come see my Nut Cracker shadow. Have a good weekend!
Love bridge shots....amazing construction ~ love watching them come together & amazed...and thankful to those engineers that put their theories to work! Great shadows!
ReplyDeleteThe new bridge is certainly more design friendly unlike the old one which was functional but reminded me of a horizontal step ladder!
ReplyDeleteYes it was a controversial project. Nice shot Jim.
ReplyDeleteThe shadow seem to be clinging to the underside of the bridge. Shy things, aren't they?
ReplyDeleteIF I WERE A SHADOW
If I were a shadow,
I would seek the light;
There I would glow sleekly,
Black and shiny bright!

Lovely sweep of curving shadow on the new bridge which of course is very serviceable but I still like the old one best,
ReplyDeleteFeels to be stronger than time itself.
ReplyDeletePlease have a good Sunday.

You always include such interesting historical info with your [posts. For those of us who live so far away, it means so much. This is am impressive bridge with the yellow glow to it. Such a nice shot. genie
ReplyDeleteI have read about this bridge and the pluses and minuses of its very existence. Shall have to go out there and see for myself. I wonder if it can be reached by ferry ... perhaps not.
ReplyDeleteJulie, there once was a ferry wharf on the eastern side of the truss span bridge at Birkenhead Point but services were discontinued only last year due to low passenger numbers.
ReplyDeleteGreat, golden photo!
ReplyDeleteLovely light and lines. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful light in this shot, jim.
ReplyDeletewow...amazing bridge. [and I liked viewing your post below this, the pump house]

A very sturdy bridge you captures right at the perfect moment, Jim.
ReplyDeletewhen I see a bridge like this, my mind goes back to the Brisbane floods when boats were just trapped at the columns.
ReplyDeleteLooks very strong bridge!

Love the golden glow!
ReplyDeleteI love walking across that bridge! Great photo-love the perspective.
ReplyDeleteCould you tell me when the 5th lane was added? Thank you, John.
ReplyDeleteJohn, sorry, I have no idea when the 5th lane was added on the Iron Cove bridge. There doesn't seem to be much info on the internet about the history of some of these bridges in Sydney.
