Rose Bay, St Paul's Anglican Church

The former St Paul’s Anglican Church on Newcastle Street at Rose Bay. This brick church was built in 1929 in an inter-war architectural style. The original church next door, that I showed yesterday, became the parish hall. It’s lucky that I photographed these recently since they are both due to be demolished soon, to make way for residential flats and a new childcare centre.

  5. NixBlog, the power lines certainly muck up a lot of views, especially in the suburbs.

  6. That is indeed a shame that it will be demolished. That sort of things seems to be happening a lot everywhere these days! Hope you have a good week, Jim!

  8. Such a shame they can't be protected as historical or something. Nice photo though.

  9. Nice that you have captured these buildings Jim and agree with others that it is such a pity that they are to be demolished.

  11. Well very few people attend the Church of England anymore so another use must be found but it is a nice old building and I am sure it will be replaced by something hideous.

  17. Such a shame they don't skip the residential flats bit and use it for a fabulous child care centre, after they've made sure it's safe first of course!!

  18. Oh, I can't believe this fine old building is going to be demolished! The buildings that replace it are unlikely to be anywhere near as beautiful and interesting. Of course the same thing has happened here in the UK far too many times. My preference is to find a way to reuse and repurpose the buildings. Great that you photographed it and its neighbour before they go. It's good to have photographic archives so people can see how a city used to be.
