Eveleigh, Carriageworks, sign

This sign is located at the entrance to CarriageWorks, a multi-venue arts centre in the inner city suburb of Eveleigh. CarriageWorks is housed in the former Eveleigh railway yards which were built between 1880 and 1889. The railway workshops on this site closed in 1988 and the heritage buildings were redeveloped into an art centre dedicated to the development and presentation of contemporary arts.

  1. I took a tour of these railway shed before they were converted. I was mesmerised. I have been to a couple of plays there too, but need my 'contemporary' brain in, which is not always available to me.

  2. I saw the workshops pre this conversion! They were looking a little shabby but always fascinating! The makeover is amazing! Very creative!

  4. A wonderful place chosen.

It was probably the 'thought of paradise-engineering' which reminded me about the book, having studied Engineering back home a decade ago.

    Please have a good Thursday.

  6. I keep meaning to go down there, possibly for the market but haven't made it yet. The buildings on both sides of the railway there look really interesting.

  12. Nick, I don't know whether they have any function at all or whether they're just there for show.
