The Rocks, Coroner's Court
The former Coroner's Court building is located along George Street at The Rocks. It was designed by Walter Liberty Vernon and built in 1906, in the Federation Free Style of architecture. It also once incorporated the now demolished city morgue, which was behind the court on Circular Quay West. It was a coroner's court until 1971 and now houses a gallery and shop.
Stunning pics. Have never been to your country; enjoy seeing your city through your eyes.
ReplyDeleteLove the 'tardis' out the front!
ReplyDeleteJulie, there wouldn't be many of those old phone boxes around these days. In fact, I don't know if there are any outside The Rocks area.

We have a red phone booth in Grafton and it's also outside the Court House!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful building. I love the street light!
ReplyDeleteLove the splash of red, wonder if the phone box was for letting relatives know the good /bad news of the trial outcomes!
ReplyDeleteAnd the old red phone box is still there for colour contrast! Incredible that this is untouched! It highlights the beauty of the old rambling building!
ReplyDeleteThat red phone box out front is a real eye catcher.
ReplyDeleteThe shadows under the arches are deep, dark and mysterious!

Have a blessed Sunday.
That's a great old building, and the street light is to die for. Love the red phone box, too. I wish we had those here.
ReplyDeleteI like the lamp post and the shadows of the bare trees, which offset the heavy brickwork of the building.
ReplyDeleteNice photo, Jim, although the building looks a bit grungy ;-)
