Chinatown, Sydney Monorail

The Sydney Monorail, also known as the Metro Monorail, is a single loop monorail that connects the city's central business district with Darling Harbour and Chinatown. After 25 years of service, the monorail will cease operating on 30 June 2013 and be demolished to make way for the development of the new Sydney International Convention, Exhibition and Entertainment Precinct in Darling Harbour. It is seen here turning the corner from Harbour Street to Liverpool Street, near the Australian Chinese Ex-Services Monument. The sign painted on the side announces: Last Chance! Farewell Sydney 30.06.2013.

    1. And it wasn't a well planned transport system because it didn't go very far and didn't really connect well with existing transport systems.

  3. What a terrible shame.
Sydney's buses are awful petrol guzzlers.. only the trains are excellent.
And the mono-rail was the most excellent of all.

    1. Yes, it was mostly just used by tourists as a way to see the city above street level.

  9. Never rode the monorail when I was in Sydney! Always thought it was an odd expense aimed at tourists only! But now, seeing its departure, there is a touch of sadness that it will fade into another era!
