I remember many years ago when there used to be a bandstand in every park, and the local musicians would usually play on a Saturday night for the enjoyment of those who brought their chairs to listen.
Great bandstand and wonderful photography for OWT ~ thanks!artmusedog and carol (A Creative Harbor)
Beautiful little structure.
I miss seeing all the bandstands that were in so many parks!! Thanks for the memories, Jim!! Have a great week!
JimYour remember that I was fascinated by Australian Bandstands in the Federation Era. I didn't mention your Watsons Bay bandstand because it didn't have all the gorgeous wrought iron lacework of the 1890-1914 era. Do you know if this bandstand was originally more decorated?
Hels, the link I provided gives a history of Robertson Park. It says that "bandstand was built of wood on a concrete foundation with a wood shingled roof" so I'd say it most likely looks the same as when it was originally built.
They can't put a very big band on that bandstand!
there was a bandstand in the town where I was born and raised.
A gorgeous Rotunda Jim. I hope it gets used a lot.
Is it ever used Jim?
These bandstands do get used for various events. I've seen a few weddings held in them in recent times.
A lovely band stand at Watson's Bay Jim.Does the band still play there?
I think bands may still play there on special occasions.
I love that bandstand!
Great shot. We have similar one in Bangalore.
do bands come and play on Sunday?
Not every Sunday but I'm sure they do for special events.
Thanks for visiting my blog. Please leave me a message. Jim.
