Circular Quay, Arena Calcetto

Arena Calcetto is an installation in First Fleet Park at Circular Quay. These are two of the six timber towers, standing at 10 metres high, which hide an individually handcrafted foosball table with custom-made players. They were created by a community collective known as Archrival, originally for the 13th Venice International Architecture Biennale in 2012 and will be here until 30 September 2014. I happened to catch a skywriter mid-message, writing something about "traffic" but it was hard to read the whole message since the wind had blown it away. The Sydney Opera House can just be seen in the distance.

  9. Foosball seems to be popular in Aus. We found tables at many public parks when we were there. A nice idea!

  13. Hello Jim, somehow I "unfollowed" your blog, not personally, but it seemed to happen. Seeing your comments on my recent posts, I realized you were still blogging. So I re-followed your blog and here I am. What an AMAZING capture to photograph that skywriting for Skywatch! Have a great day. Jo

  15. Very nice - it's been years since I've seen a skywriter (I suspect it's too windy here with the mountains).

    1. A small aircraft able to expel special smoke, flies in certain patterns to create writing readable by someone on the ground.
