Rookwood Necropolis is the largest multicultural cemetery in the southern hemisphere. Rookwood General Cemeteries Reserve Trust is the custodian of this site, uniting the former Anglican, General, Independent, Jewish and Muslim Trusts, to provide burial and commemoration services to over 90 culturally diverse communities. This is the Islamic Monument.
A place of peace...
ReplyDeleteImpressive!
ReplyDeleteThanks for focusing on multiculturalism!
ReplyDeletewonderful building
ReplyDeleteA solid piece of archtecture. And love the fringe of living greens round it.
ReplyDeleteAt Springvale Cemetery in Melbourne, mourners either boil to death in summer or drown from rain in winter - no trees, benches etc. I've only been to Rookwood Necropolis once or twice, but I was very impressed with the care paid to the environment. The Islamic Monument, surrounded by trees, looks serene.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the link taking me to Rookwood . . . there's a lot to see - super stunning ideas - it's much more than I would have dreamed - and, your photo was the perfect introduction.
ReplyDelete...there's strength in numbers!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful place!
ReplyDeleteGiven that I have just come back from India, that building has some familiar architectural features.
