This canal is located near historic Abbotsford House, a heritage listed house which gave its name to the inner west suburb of Abbotsford,. In 1920 the estate became the site of a Nestlé chocolate factory, with the house used initially for chocolate production and later as their administrative offices. The factory was closed in 1991 and the estate was redeveloped with medium-density residential apartments known as Abbotsford Cove,.
Quite a lot of development there. We have an Abbotsford House here, so the name's made its away around the English speaking world.
ReplyDeleteIt was named after Abbotsford House in Britain, the residence of novelist and poet, Sir Walter Scott. So I guess that's the connection. William.
DeleteI could live there quite happily!
ReplyDeleteI love how you always know the backstory of things.
