This vessel is moored at Wharf 7 of Sydney Wharf, as part of the permanent display of the Australian National Maritime Museum at Darling Harbour. The Commonwealth Lightship 4 Carpentaria is a floating unmanned lighthouse that was built in 1917. It was anchored in locations where a permanent light could not be built, until it was retired in 1985. King Street Wharf and the Sydney skyline can be seen across the harbour.

ReplyDeleteIt certainly stands out in this location, too.
I've never seen a floating lighthouse!
ReplyDeleteI don't normally involve myself in war and killing, but the Australian National Maritime Museum was very sensitively presented.
ReplyDeleteNot seen a floating lighthouse before but what a sensible idea. Love the colour of the boat.
