Waverley Soldier's Memorial is located in Waverley Park, in the eastern suburb of Waverley. It depicts an ANZAC soldier standing on a plinth, holding a rifle to his side. It was dedicated in 1918 and erected in honour of the citizens who enlisted for service in the Great War of 1914-1918. Today is ANZAC Day, which marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War in 1915.
An impressive and dignified memorial.
ReplyDeleteNice to know about this memorial...
ReplyDeleteLest we forget.
ReplyDeleteA great memorial to the freedom fighters! ANZAC day has become now so well known that it is not on the American calendars listed. Have a memorable week!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, am missing you on the All Seasons linky list. Hope you still can make it before it closes this week (it's now Wed. 9am here)!
Thanks for the reminder, Jeannette. Thanks for the Anzac Day tribute on your blog.

ReplyDeleteNice sharp image. I can almost read the inscriptions.
ReplyDeleteGreat Photo love from Poland
ReplyDeleteAs I read it was just ANZAC day, your post is really interesting. This is a fine memorial to those who fought more than 100 years ago. Always remember . . .
ReplyDeleteA lovely war memorial Jim. I hope you have a wonderful weekend
