These Australian white ibises forage for food in the vegetation which grows along a canal along Rockdale Plaza Drive, in the southern suburb of Rockdale. The ibis has come to be regarded as a problem species in urban areas as a result of their scavenging activities, scattering rubbish from bins in the process. The species has acquired a variety of colloquial names such as "bin chicken" or "bin chook".

Bin chicken is as tough as sea gulls
ReplyDeleteThe ibis was probably in Australia before human beings, so if anyone is a pest, it is us. Cover the rubbish bins firmly!
