Darling Harbour sculpture

This metallic sculpture at Darling Harbour called "The Diver" was created by Michael Snape in 1987. I hadn't particularly noticed it from the walkway, in the past. When I wandered around the other side and saw it up against the blue sky, I suddenly had a new appreciation of it. I thought it was quite remarkable with that backdrop.

  3. Great sculpture--sent the link to my daughter, a competitive swimmer--it's someone diving or underwater, yes?(she'll be on the blocks with some Aussies at the US Open next week).

  4. Thanks for sharing your Aussie connection with us EcoRover. It certainly could be someone swimming or diving.

  7. Like the sculpture is looking at the sky upside down. (If only it has eyes and can appreciate beauty) the way we see it here.

  9. I could make a few suggestions for a title. They would probably be different from what the artist intended.

  21. Isn't it great how the thought of Skywatch Friday can help us look differently at things?

  22. Maybe it's a modern kind of mermaid. The things on the statues backe look like gills.

  24. That´s a great diver silhouette. I like it a lot too.

Somehow it reminds me of one local sculpture in Helsinki, Finland: http://www.flickr.com/photos/24578558@N03/3276274677/ (not my photo)

  27. This sculpture makes for an interesting photo. It almost looks like a pole vault to me. I wonder if it is something specific.

  29. Probably it isn't done yet. Sometimes we think a display like that is just a sore to the eye. In reality, most people just do not appreciate what truly the message behind of any art work. You have to be a keen observant to get the ideology of the artist who oftentimes themselves are unpredictable.
