Hurstville, fire station

The former Hurstville Fire Station is located in MacMahon Street, in the southern suburb of Hurstville. It was built in 1912 in the Federation Free architectural style. It has been restored and is now part of a residential and commercial building.

  2. Thanks for the image and date. It looks like a very interesting and solid piece of architecture, with an added on balcony and sunburst decoration. This was serious architecture... firemen has serious work to do.

  4. Good to see they are keeping these old buildings, even if they are now overshadowed by those awful blocks of units.

  19. I was not familiar with the term Federation Free architecture. Looked it up. This is indeed a handsome former fire station... and I'm glad it was restored... but I'm surprised they were allowed to keep the sign.

  21. Nice looking fire station. I wonder what they use it for now. The new building looks a resonable distance behind.
