Mascot, fire station

This fire engine is seen here departing from Mascot fire station, along Coward Street in the eastern suburb of Mascot. The fire station was designed by Spain, Cosh & Minnet in the Federation Free style and built in 1912. It was closed in 1945 but reopened in 1980 after the restructuring of the Sydney Fire District.

  1. I'm glad they restored and reopened it Jim..it's great to see a building still being used all these years later for what it was actually designed for.

  4. I hate to see lovely old buildings vacated so I'm really happy it was restored for its original purpose.

  6. Good to see it still being used as a fire station. Many similar buildings over here have gone the way of the dodo.

  8. A grand old building that has no extra modern frills to distort the ambience!

  9. This is quite a handsome fire station. Wish the truck had been out so I could have seen it. I LOVE fire trucks even at 73. Guess it is the little girl in me. genie
