Botanic Gardens, First Farm

This scarecrow is part of the First Farm display in the Royal Botanic Gardens. It features plants that originally grew on the site of the first farm established by European settlers near this site at Farm Cove.

  1. A trendy trim scare-crow. I'm wondering what plants the early settlers brought with them Jim .... that looks like kale in your pic.

    1. Dianne, that's I thought they were, but wasn't sure hence I didn't write in the post. Kale has become a trendy new "old" vegetable.

  2. Did you read Keating's spray about the commercial mis-use of the Botanic Gardens over the weekend, Jim? I had always thought that the first garden was over on Garden Island, which failed because no-one on the FF had farming experience.

  4. Methinks that this scarecrow would not only scare the crows on a cold dark night.

  9. We had several fellows like this in my young days on the farm. Did not know they had them in them in Botanic gardens.
