This electricity substation is located along Railway Parade, in the southern suburb of Kogarah. It was commissioned in 2010, with the design prepared to complement future commercial development along the road but also fit in with the local residential area. Many square vents and square bricks. I still prefer the old heritage substations around the city, as seen here.
I thought it looked new, looks an impressive building
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful and strong building. Great capture !
ReplyDeleteBest regards, Synnöve
Jim, I think they did an exceptionally good job designing this substation to fit in with its current and future neighbors. And, the design also shows some deference to the Art Deco style of the heritage substation in the post to which you gave us a link. I say "well done" to them and "well done" to you for an excellent "Squares" find.
ReplyDeleteI feel as though someone is watching me!!
ReplyDeleteGreat find for Theme Day, and great topic you picked :)
ReplyDeletepretty cool facade.
ReplyDeletefrankly my dear
It is a pretty cool looking building
ReplyDeleteCreative choice. It stands out well against that sky. Jim.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the nicer sub-stations I've seen! It's good that they made it fit in with the surroundings.
ReplyDeleteThe Rozelle pump house was built in 1934 and exactly reflects the Deco industrial feel.
ReplyDeleteThe Kogarah sub station is harking back to the Bauhaus geometry of the early 1930s but doesn't quite pull it off. If the dark bricks were open windows, they might have been copying the style loved for picture theatres, bus depots or petrol stations.
An interesting building and a lot of squares!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a model of building blocks. Stark but interesting.
ReplyDeleteVery bold lines in this structure Jim.
ReplyDeleteCool shot of this building.
ReplyDeleteThis is quite an interesting shot! The square vents caught my eyes straight away!
ReplyDeleteHappy May 1st .. what a good photo for today's theme
ReplyDeleteInteresting choice for this theme day. Really like it!
ReplyDeleteUnusual design...and those windows certainly are square :).
ReplyDeleteThey're actually vents.
DeleteWould make for a nice abstract painting !
ReplyDeleteJack is right Jim, when you study this building it does have a slight touch of the Art Deco in amongst the modern.. couldn't get a more perfect shot for the theme.
ReplyDeleteA good example of modern architecture
ReplyDeleteThis sort of building is usually so sterile and brutish. They've done a nice job here and provided you with a very nice find for the day's theme!
ReplyDeleteLots of square windows in the facade. Good election!
ReplyDeleteYou found a great shot for Theme Day!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant squares!
ReplyDeleteGood one! fitting well with the theme :)
ReplyDeleteInteresting building. I agree with you that the older substation is much prettier and not so 'clinical'. Great picture!
ReplyDeleteI agree. I like the old heritage substations better. Although they did a good job with the design of this building.
ReplyDeletethe windows are so small
