The White Bay Power Station is located along Robert Street, in the inner city suburb of Rozelle. Sitting on the shore of White Bay, this heritage listed former coal-fired power station was commissioned in 1917 and decommissioned in 1983. It is currently owned by the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority which is currently undertaking necessary preservation work to reduce further degradation and ensure the potential for future uses.
Such an interesting link to the old power station Jim, gosh it would be a photographers delight in there! The video ended with such an impressive image.. interesting to see that it's used as a film location and events venue. Will be fascinating to see what they eventually decide to use it for.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Grace, would be fun to have a closer look.
ReplyDeleteThe old power station does make an interesting photo. I hope they will use the property for good use.
ReplyDeleteInteresting!! Boom, Bobbi and Gary.
ReplyDeleteI like this sort of planning. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletePerhaps the Harbour Authority is SLOWLY undertaking necessary preservation work to reduce further degradation and ensure the potential for future uses. It doesn't look as if much has happened since 1983.
ReplyDeletePacific Power sold it to them in 2000 but there haven't really been any serious development plans tabled yet.
DeleteI find I like industrial photos when featured by other photographers -- however, I rarely think of taking such a photo.
ReplyDeletePerhaps this building could be reconfigured and divided up into yuppie housing units. Lots of people seem to like old, restored factory buildings. Glad it will be preserved.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful building - I would love to see more!
