Rozelle, White Bay Power Station

The White Bay Power Station is located along Robert Street, in the inner city suburb of Rozelle. Sitting on the shore of White Bay, this heritage listed former coal-fired power station was commissioned in 1917 and decommissioned in 1983. It is currently owned by the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority which is currently undertaking necessary preservation work to reduce further degradation and ensure the potential for future uses.

  1. Such an interesting link to the old power station Jim, gosh it would be a photographers delight in there! The video ended with such an impressive image.. interesting to see that it's used as a film location and events venue. Will be fascinating to see what they eventually decide to use it for.

  5. Perhaps the Harbour Authority is SLOWLY undertaking necessary preservation work to reduce further degradation and ensure the potential for future uses. It doesn't look as if much has happened since 1983.

    1. Pacific Power sold it to them in 2000 but there haven't really been any serious development plans tabled yet.

  6. I find I like industrial photos when featured by other photographers -- however, I rarely think of taking such a photo.

  7. Perhaps this building could be reconfigured and divided up into yuppie housing units. Lots of people seem to like old, restored factory buildings. Glad it will be preserved.
