This former police station is located along George Street at The Rocks. This heritage listed building was designed by James Barnet and built in 1882 in the Victorian Free Classical architectural style. The police station was relocated to larger premises in 1983 and the building now houses Le Pain Quotidien, a Belgian bakery and cafe.
Love that building Jim. Truly beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWhat a splendid bit of 1882 architecture, although I would never have picked it as a police station.
ReplyDeleteThe style really appeals to me. I'd have thought a bank or a library.
ReplyDeleteThe Belgian bakery and cafe sounds like a great idea, replacing the former residents. Donuts/police...get it?
ReplyDeleteI never thought about that but then again I don't think doughnuts are as popular in Australia as they are in North America.
DeleteFabulous building for a former Police Station. I'm donut and Belgium waffle fan. Spoiled for choice.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous site for a bakery.
ReplyDeleteWorth a Thousand Words
