The Rocks, police station

This former police station is located along George Street at The Rocks. This heritage listed building was designed by James Barnet and built in 1882 in the Victorian Free Classical architectural style. The police station was relocated to larger premises in 1983 and the building now houses Le Pain Quotidien, a Belgian bakery and cafe.

  1. What a splendid bit of 1882 architecture, although I would never have picked it as a police station.

  2. The style really appeals to me. I'd have thought a bank or a library.

  3. The Belgian bakery and cafe sounds like a great idea, replacing the former residents. Donuts/police...get it?

    1. I never thought about that but then again I don't think doughnuts are as popular in Australia as they are in North America.

  4. Fabulous building for a former Police Station. I'm donut and Belgium waffle fan. Spoiled for choice.
