"Del Rio" is a harbourfront apartment block located along Billyard Avenue, in the eastern suburb of Elizabeth Bay. It was designed by J. Spencer Stansfield in 1928 in the Spanish Mission architectural style and is considered to be the instigator for the popularisation of the style in Sydney.

Interesting, different architecture! I like it! Great capture as always, Jim! Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteGreat shot!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting new style for Sydney to adopt, especially near the water. I wonder if it was the architect saw the Spanish Mission style while he was abroad or if the building owner requested something new and fresh.
ReplyDeleteIt is a lovely shot, I would like the apartment with the balcony and flowers! Thanks for sharing, have a great week!

I still remember when the Spanish mission style was all the rage in Melbourne. Your building however, has a lot more style than the amateurish suburban villas

This is an interesting building, Jim, with a tower and a balcony and the vine and the archway, and some neat decorative features. Wishing you and your loved ones a late but heartfelt Happy 2013!
ReplyDeleteinteresting building but ..... where is the "red" ?
ReplyDeleteThere is red and blue in the coat of arms, located in the middle of the name of the building. The "No Stopping" signs, out the front, are also red.
