Sydney Cove, Australia Day

Sydney Cove is the small bay on the southern shore of Sydney Harbour. This is the site of the historical landing place of the First Fleet on the 26th January 1788. Australia Day, which is Australia's national day, commemorates this arrival and the birth of the country of Australia. Sydney Cove was named after the British Home Secretary, Thomas Townshend, Lord Sydney. Today the cove is better known as Circular Quay and the city is known as Sydney.

  3. A most appropriate shot for this day, and this weekend, Jim. Hard to envisage that scene 225 years ago, as the ships of the First Fleet rode at anchor just out there on that water. Many thanks for your contribution to our first National Day on the CDP portal.
