These sandstone heritage listed buildings are located along George Street, at The Rocks. The Union Bond Store was designed by John Bibb and built in 1842 as a warehouse and later used as a bank. The Merchants House was also designed by John Bibb and built in 1848 in the Greek Revival architectural style as a town house and office.
Nice looking building which looks like it's from Europe.
ReplyDeleteGreat buildings!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteI love the architecture around the Rocks - an area I can spend hours wandering in.
ReplyDeleteI think the 1940s architecture, at least in the Rocks area, must have been elegant, understated and lasting.
ReplyDeleteThat's 1840s. Yes.
DeleteGraceful buildings that share a nod to Palladio. How will they be used once the restorations are complete? Perhaps as living units? How cool that would be.
ReplyDeleteSo many windows all with their own stories to tell I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteLooks like they have been restored or cleaned.
ReplyDeleteLike the tones of the brickwork and the facade has a dramatic street presence.
ReplyDeleteInteresting how narrow the middle building is. Elegant is the word that comes to mind when I look at them. Happy Ruby Tuesday Too!
ReplyDeleteA substantial-looking building!
