This monument is located in Green Point Reserve, overlooking Camp Cove in the eastern suburb of Watsons Bay. It commemorates the first landing point in Sydney Harbour of Arthur Phillip and the First Fleet. The stone plaque reads: On this beach (Camp Cove), Governor Phillip first landed in Port Jackson Jan. 21 1788. R.A.N.S.

Looks like some intersting stuff in the link I'll read later.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of the monument.
ReplyDeleteSeems a very discreet monument.
ReplyDeleteIt always surprises me when plaques declare exactly where the first landing happened. I guess some people have much better memories than I have. ;)
ReplyDeletethe empty bench is inviting one to stop and rest.
ReplyDeleteGreat view from it too.
DeleteThat is definitely a site to remember!
ReplyDeleteI like how the monument seems to be partway up the hillside. It has a sacred effect.
ReplyDeleteAustralia is so short in history, we value even 19th century monuments and relics. Well done, Watsons Bay. I wish my suburb had similar monuments.
ReplyDeleteQuite a lovely-looking monument!
ReplyDeleteI like how the monument looks out over the area as if it were Governor Phillip, himself, and seeing what he saw.
ReplyDeleteMust have a nice view from that bench.
