Watsons Bay, monument

This monument is located in Green Point Reserve, overlooking Camp Cove in the eastern suburb of Watsons Bay. It commemorates the first landing point in Sydney Harbour of Arthur Phillip and the First Fleet. The stone plaque reads: On this beach (Camp Cove), Governor Phillip first landed in Port Jackson Jan. 21 1788. R.A.N.S.

  1. Looks like some intersting stuff in the link I'll read later.

  2. It always surprises me when plaques declare exactly where the first landing happened. I guess some people have much better memories than I have. ;)

  4. I like how the monument seems to be partway up the hillside. It has a sacred effect.

  5. Australia is so short in history, we value even 19th century monuments and relics. Well done, Watsons Bay. I wish my suburb had similar monuments.

  6. I like how the monument looks out over the area as if it were Governor Phillip, himself, and seeing what he saw.
