St Brigid Catholic Church is located on the corner of Brook Street and Waltham Street in the eastern suburb of Coogee. It was designed by Albert Edmund Bates and built in 1921 in the Byzantine architectural style.
The architectural decoration is much too fussy, even for a Byzantine style of church. But what is amazing is that in 1921, the nation was still traumatised by the terrible losses of World War One. I would have thought something most austere would have been welcomed, perhaps as a war memorial church.
