These Tall Ships are currently moored at the Australian National Maritime Museum at Darling Harbour. An International Fleet Review is being held in Sydney from 3 to 11 October 2013 to commemorate the centenary of the first entry of the Royal Australian Navy's Fleet into Sydney. A number of Tall Ships from around the world make up a fleet which sailed into Sydney Harbour on Thursday. Prior to their arrival in Sydney the international fleet held festivals in Fremantle, Adelaide, Melbourne and Hobart.
Very impressive fleet and lovely water reflection ~ happy weekend ^_^
ReplyDeleteWonderful event in Sydney, Jim, would love to be there. We saw them all in 1988 and went on to Hobart and enjoyed them there too, including going on board a couple of them.
ReplyDeleteThese are amazing and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love those beautiful, tall ships, Jim!! Terrific capture as always! Have a great weekend!!
ReplyDeleteFabulous looking the ships and buildings..
ReplyDeleteI like those "vieux gréements" they are always so impressive ! Nice choice of reflection for the day...
ReplyDeleteI'm so envious Jim..what an amazing sight that must have been as the tall ships sailed into harbour. The whole day looked like a fabulous event. I watched the fireworks and illuminations on the Opera House earlier tonight, spectacular!
ReplyDeleteI saw a whole parade of Tall Ships in Norfolk, VA and in Cincinnati, OH. They are so awe inspiring! My nephew sailed The Eagle across the Atlantic, a Coast Guard tall ship. An experience of a lifetime.
ReplyDeleteI'm ready to hop on one of those vessels and sail away! Lovely lines on those ships.
ReplyDeleteThe tall ships fascinated me when they were in Melbourne. There is something so inspiring and dreamy about them. I was able to photograph them as they left Port Phillip Bay bound for Sydney. There was lovely misty light that morning to add to the romance. I was not able to get the wonderful up close photo that you have here. Love it.
ReplyDeleteOh, how I wish I could see these marvellous ships! I hope you take (and post) lots of pictures of them.
ReplyDeleteGreat contrast between these ships and the buildings! Gorgeous shot!!!
ReplyDeleteThis picture is amazing in all its contrasts: the tall ship being parked next to a modern gray Navy ship and the 1800s style ship set against the very modern glass and steel skyscrapers of today's Sydney. Amazing, we are used to modern power in our seacraft, so it was almost an art to rely on wind and sail to sail the world. So cool!
ReplyDeleteThis is really nice and reminds me of a visit here from a tall ship and how in awe of it we all were....Michelle
ReplyDeleteGreat shot (I'm sure you took many, many more of this grand celebration!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous event for Sydney Jim.
ReplyDeleteThe arrival of tall ships always makes people happy - they are enthusiastically greeted when they visit San Francisco Bay.
