Paddington, bank

This Commonwealth Bank branch is located along Oxford Street in the inner city suburb of Paddington. The monumental façade of this shopfront is one of many found along this shopping strip.

  1. The top part looks almost like a Lego building. I like it!

  2. The top facade looks much like some pre-constructed piece that has been added on. The facade is lovely but the bank presentation hardly complements it. An interesting one.

  3. Banks liked to give a sense of trustworthiness and solidity, didn't they?
Bank architecture, therefore, used to be solid. And classical.
Now I wouldn't believe a word they say.

  4. Is this next to the School of Photography?

    1. The former, larger Commonwealth Bank building is next to the Australian Centre for Photography, on the opposite side of the street. Oddly, this building was actually an ANZ Bank branch until recently.

  8. It is a beautiful front though I don't like what they did to the business area of the building. After a long time I took a tour through your blog and truly enjoyed it. Thank you.

  12. The very modern yellow strip is quite a contrast to the looming dignity of the rest of the building.
