Tempe, house

Tempe House sits on the southern shore of the Cooks River in the southern suburb of Wolli Creek. It was designed by John Verge and built by Alexander Brodie Spark in 1836 in the Georgian architectural style. It was named after the 'Vale of Tempe', a beautiful valley in ancient Greek legend set at the foot of Mount Olympus in Greece. It is dwarfed by the apartment buildings built in recent years.

  1. That looks a wonderful building but I feel it is now overshadowed by those high rise blocks which detract from its beauty.

    1. Not much these days. They have an open day once a year for people to view inside. I think it may be used as a community centre and available for hire for special functions.

  6. Gosh Tempe House is such a contrast to the rather brutal looking building behind it.

  7. Indeed it looks very small compare to the tall buildings behind. But this place can be a very good place for a wedding. ^_^
