St Philip's Anglican Church is bounded by York Street, Jamison Street and Clarence Street. This view is of the Clarence Street entrance with the Suncorp Place building in the background. This heritage listed church was designed by Edmund Blacket and built in 1858 in the Victorian Academic Gothic architectural style. It is the third church to be located on Church Hill on the site of the first church constructed in Australia in 1793 and is named in honour of the first Governor, Arthur Phillip.

I love the contrast between old and new.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful church!
ReplyDeleteIt looks out of place with the modern city buildings, but maybe that is a good thing. :)
ReplyDeleteThe church is gorgeous! What a great constrast between the two buildings.
ReplyDeletewow 1793 so it's early as - very cool
ReplyDeleteIndeed a great contrast but not by trying to reach the sky.
ReplyDeleteFantastic city view!!
ReplyDelete...lovely, but I wish that the modern tower was there!
ReplyDeletewasn't there?
DeleteI agree, that concrete tower detracts from the church's majesty.
ReplyDeleteNice contrast! Arianna
ReplyDeleteThat's quite a contrast! But it's kind of sad to see that fine church dwarfed like that.
ReplyDeleteI imagine it would have dominated the skyline originally.
DeleteLovely architect.
