Phoenix Chambers or the former Soul Pattinson Chemist is located along Pitt Street Mall. It was designed by Mansfield Bros and built in 1886 in the Victorian Italianate style. Washington H. Soul Pattinson & Co. first occupied moved their business to a shop on this site in 1873 until the building burnt down in 1886. The building which rose from the ashes was named Phoenix Chambers and features a statue of a phoenix with spreaded wings, located centrally on the parapet with a flag pole mounted behind. The steel awning added in 1929 is in character with the building which remained a chemist until it was just vacated recently in 2018.
