Australian Museum, William Street

This fountain at Cook and Phillip Park is located in the square oppothe Australian Museumalong William Street. The two buildings seen here are extensions to the original museum. The Collections and Reseasite rch Building on the left was completed in 2008 and the Parkes-Farmer Wing on the right was completed in 1963. I featured a photo of the heritage listed, neo-classical Barnet Wing built in the 1880s in College Street here. The colourful banners along William Street were scattered throughout the city a few weeks ago for New Years Eve celebrations.

  2. do you go swimming underneath of that water fountain? it's Ian Thorpe's aquatic centre, it's not cheap getting in and swim there though.

  4. My 389 bus goes through the middle of this photo but I have never thought to picture the museum from the cathedral. Reminds me that I want to go into the museum in the next couple of weeks.

  6. Lindz, this is actually above the Cook and Phillip Aquatic and Fitness Centre. I haven't swum here. The Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre is across the other side of the city at Ultimo.

  8. Would be possible to spend half the day outside, looking and listening to the water, while forgetting to go inside.

How nice to see that there is such a clean and large space available - what a contrast to Athens.

    Please have a nice Wednesday.

  10. I'm not sure what I think about those water features along that block. Sometimes I like them, sometimes I don't, although you can get some good reflections at times.

  11. Pretty fountain. I like the architecture of the two buildings. Though I thought it was just one long building.
