Sydney Opera House, steps

The steps of the Sydney Opera House, viewed from the Tarpeian Way Gate steps, which lead up to the Royal Botanic Gardens. It has been dubbed the 'Oprah House' this week, since American chat show host Oprah Winfrey is recording a couple of shows on the steps here tomorrow.

  3. «Louis» doesn't recall having seen a photo of the Opera House that shows the steps. This adds a nice perspective.

  5. I'm a bit Oprah-ed out at the moment and she hasn't even come anywhere near Brisbane. Great shot.

  6. Tomorrow will be interesting and most probably irritating. Looks like Macquarie Street and Prince Albert Road will be closed because of her Ophrahness. Wonder if she'll drive by in a cavalcade, like the Pope. Can't believe the amount of money we are wasting on her.

  7. I have heard that the opera house is something worth seeing in person. I cannot get there but thank you for sharing your photo. It is nice to see placed through the eyes of others.

  13. Cara, I know what you mean. This visit/show seems to be dominating the media at the moment. She's getting more coverage than a royal visit does these days.

Leif, I work in the city but I think I'll be staying well away from that end tomorrow. My sister got tickets through her work, so she will be there.

  15. Wonderful image of the Op...rah! Has the Tarpeian Way anytthing to do with the Tarpeian Rock?

  16. VP, I didn't know about the Tarpeian Rock until you mentioned it and I just did some research and learnt about the Roman Forum. There's a steep cliff behind the Opera House, that was created when the rock at Bennelong Point was cut away to build a road, which was named Tarpeian Way.

  19. An impressive view of the Opera House with its steps, Jim. Did you enjoy the Oprah taping?

  20. Francisca, I didn't go to the taping but you couldn't escape the media coverage of it here in Australia. My sister was invited to be in the audience and said there was an incredible buzz there with 6,000 people attending each show. She also said that Oprah's interaction with audience before and after the show was better than the actual show or guest interviews.

Whenever I think of the Sydney Opera House, I associate it with Nury Vittachi's Feng Shui Detective.
